IV Hydration Q & A

What is IV hydration?

IV hydration, also known as IV vitamin therapy, administers vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants into your body intravenously. When nutrients enter your bloodstream, they bypass your digestive system, allowing your cells to receive more of the benefits.

Treatment is comfortable and relaxing. There’s no recovery period, so you can return to work and other activities immediately after your appointment.

What types of medical issues can benefit from IV hydration?

KAMcare Health and Wellness uses IV hydration to treat various medical issues, including:

  • Dehydration
  • Jetlag
  • Migraines
  • Neurological disorders like multiple sclerosis (MS)
  • Anemia
  • Vitamin deficiencies
  • Asthma
  • Bacterial and fungal infections
  • Autoimmune diseases
  • Fatigue

You might also be a candidate for IV hydration if you’re an athlete or weekend warrior and want to speed up your body’s natural healing process after a game or competition.

What does IV hydration involve?

KAMcare Health and Wellness provides IV hydration on-site.

Your provider reviews your medical records and asks about your goals for treatment and the symptoms you’re experiencing. Next, your provider conducts a physical exam and orders lab work, including blood tests and urinalysis.

Your provider uses the results of the lab tests to determine the type of IV hydration that will most benefit you. Then, they ask you to sit or lie down in a comfortable recliner. Your provider cleans and sterilizes a vein on your arm and carefully inserts a needle into the vein.

The needle connects to an IV bag that administers a solution of vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants into your bloodstream. During treatment, you can sleep, read a book, or watch TV. After the IV drip finishes, your KAMcare Health and Wellness provider removes the needle, wraps your arm with a bandage, and moves you to a recovery room for observation.

How long does IV hydration take?

The time that IV hydration takes depends on several factors, including the medical issue treated and the type of IV solution you receive. Most people are in and out of the office within 45 - 60 minutes, but it may take longer.*

Is IV hydration safe?

IV hydration is safe and usually well-tolerated. After treatment, you might experience mild bruising or redness at the IV insertion site, but these symptoms should improve within a day or two. After your appointment, you can return to normal activities right away.
